LOCALIZATION TESTING
OPTIMIZE YOUR PRODUCT FOR ANY LOCATION IN THE WORLD!
Location testing is a technique where the behaviour of software is tested in a specific location. By doing this, your software is appropriated to the language and culture of that particular region. For example, if the product were made in Switzerland, then the location testing would ensure that it is customized for the swiss culture. It will ensure that the UI, default language, documentation, date and time format are designed to fit the swiss culture. The significant areas of focus in localization testing are content and UI. Only the local version of your product is put through localization testing.
WHY LOCALIZATION TESTING IS IMPORTANT
- Ensures the correct linguistic and cultural aspects for the specified location
- Localization testing is flexible and can help reduce the cost of the overall testing
- It makes necessary changes to the user interface or initial settings
- It ensures that there are no linguistic errors, typographical errors or cultural appropriateness of UI
FEATURES OF LOCALIZATION TESTING
- Localized user interface
- Localized content
- Specific Language of target country
- Hardware Compatibility
1. TEST ENVIRONMENT SET-UP
A good test environment guarantees a successful test and consequently, the best quality of your software.
2. SELECT PRODUCT
The local version of the product to be tested is selected. A localization strategy is also developed.
3. SCRIPT GENERATION
Depending on the location for which your product was made, the script is generated to appropriate this specific location's culture. For example, if testing an application made for Germany, the default language is set to German.
4. COMPARISON
A comparison is made between the attributes of your product and that of the location. This is to ensure the correct cultural and linguistic appropriation.
5. ANALYSIS AND RESULTS
After comparison, the findings are documented and analyzed to know whether it was successful or not. The result is then given to the developing team to correct any errors or bugs found during testing.
AUTOMATION IN LOCALIZATION TESTING
Automation testing can be used for localization tests if the project is large and requires multiple testing. To do this, we follow the following steps:
- Select automation tool that will write scripts such as UFT, Selenium
- Select the case to be tested and develop a localization strategy
- Write scripts according to strategy
- Document the results
- Update the scenario as Pass/Fail
